Tahiti: Inclusion & Diversity in the Classroom – Teaching Empathy, Mindfulness & Critical Thinking
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The new KA1 Erasmus course in Tahiti offers participants a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Polynesian culture while enhancing their educational skills through international collaboration. Set in the breathtaking island landscape, this program blends professional development with hands-on learning experiences in sustainability and intercultural exchange. Teachers face new challenges in the school system that is often ill-equipped to integrate students from other cultures and students with special needs.
This course promotes intercultural education by modeling empathy in a mindful classroom. We will look into the thought process and seek gratitude in living in the present. The concept of ‘reaction vs response’ will be presented to promote a friendlier working environment and reduce bullying. Open-mindedness will be mirrored in our study of critical thinking and the need for better conversation.
The course also looks at soft skills development in the classroom. Reinforcing collaboration and teamwork is the cornerstone of promoting true inclusion and recognizing the integration of versatility & special needs. By promoting and celebrating cultural diversity in our schools, we make an important step towards bringing social change. The course will discuss challenges, best practices, and promoting mindful values toward proper inclusion.
