Innovative Teaching Methods Experts

Erasmus Courses Croatia is a centre of expertise in active, creative and learner-centred teaching. We help teachers move beyond the textbook with drama, game-based learning, project-based learning and other methods that make students want to take part

Why teachers need school innovation methods now

Students today are used to fast, interactive and visual experiences. As a result, a lesson built only on listening and note-taking often struggles to hold their attention. Many teachers therefore ask the same questions: How do we motivate quiet or disengaged students? How do we make learning active without losing control of the class? Above all, how do we choose methods that truly improve results rather than just add novelty?

We answer these questions with tested approaches, not trends. In fact, our work rests on European cooperation, real classroom practice and an international project that put drama into English lessons across six countries.

Our approach: learning by doing

Students remember what they experience. Therefore, our courses are built around the methods they teach: you play, perform, build and solve problems yourself, and then adapt each activity for your own classroom. Consequently, you return home with ready-to-use lessons rather than only ideas.

Use role play, improvisation and storytelling to build confidence, speaking skills and empathy, in any subject and at any age.

Turn challenges, points and playful tasks into motivation and deeper practice, without losing sight of learning goals.

Guide students through real-world projects that develop teamwork, research and problem solving, as well as subject knowledge.

Explore a wide range of 21st-century teaching methods, so you can choose the right tool for each group and each lesson.

Proof of expertise: Erasmus+ ACT project

Our expertise is anchored in the Erasmus+ project ACT: Act, Communicate, Transcend (May 2021 – May 2023), which we coordinated. Its aim was to improve English speaking skills through drama. The starting point was a clear problem: surveys across the EU show that many Member States face challenges in achieving good language learning outcomes. In response, our partnership developed an innovative tool for the classroom, and teachers tested it with their students.

8 partners

Theatre, university, schools, NGOs and authorities working side by side.

6 countries

Croatia, Romania, Türkiye, Italy, Bulgaria and the United Kingdom.

12 ESL teachers

Teachers who tested every activity in real classrooms.

6 languages

Outputs available in English, Italian, Romanian, Turkish, Bulgarian and Croatian.

What the project developed:

  • A drama-based speaking assessment rubric: a unique tool for evaluating speaking skills
  • A set of training materials: helping teachers understand drama and its benefits in the classroom
  • A drama-based activity book: practical activities ready for the classroom
  • An e-learning platform: bringing all the outputs together in one place

Furthermore, the outputs are available in English, Italian, Romanian, Turkish, Bulgarian and Croatian, and they stay available for teachers and students after the project’s end. As a result, the teachers involved gained in-depth knowledge of drama-based speaking activities, improved their pedagogical skills and made their teaching more fun.

Setting new trends with strong partners

We do not work alone. Instead, our teaching methods work brings together theatre professionals, universities, local authorities, NGOs, schools and language experts from across Europe. Because of this mix, our approach is both creative and academically grounded.

1

Theatre professionals.

Teatar Tirena (Croatia) brings the craft of performance. Therefore, the drama activities are built on real theatre practice, not simplified versions of it.

2

Universities and research

Necmettin Erbakan University (Türkiye) contributes academic insight. As a result, the materials are linked to evidence about how students learn.

 3

Education authorities and local government

Konya Provincial Directorate of National Education (Türkiye) and the Municipality of Corigliano Rossano (Italy) connect the work with real school systems, helping reach teachers beyond this project.

4

NGOs, training and language organisations

ASEF (Romania), the National School of Management (Bulgaria) and Eurospeak Language Schools (UK) bring pedagogical and language expertise.

5

Teachers in the classroom

Twelve ESL teachers tested the activities with their own students. Finally, their feedback ensured that everything works in real lessons.

Why these methods work

When students act, play and create, they use language and knowledge in a meaningful way. For this reason, we believe that active methods increase motivation, interest and engagement, and above all that they support the learning process itself. Moreover, these methods are not limited to language lessons. Drama builds communication in science, games add energy to mathematics, and projects connect history with real life.
