Why is it important to work on the 4 C’s in the classroom?
Some of the most important features of the 21st century classroom are the 4 C’s of education. Also called soft skills, these include communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. By focusing on actively developing these skills teachers can make a positive impact on learners’ performance in school, but also on their quality of life. Find out the importance of each skill below and learn how can you help your students to improve them!
Communication ?️
Good communication entails a successful exchange of information, ideas and thoughts. It’s important to direct children towards a proper way of face-to face communication, which includes both verbal and non-verbal cues. What is more, it’s crucial to teach children how to respectively navigate through digital space and text-based communication as well. Effective communication will boost your students’ confidence, make them more productive and strengthen their social connections.
Collaboration ?
Collaboration implies working together to reach a common goal. Through cooperation and teamwork children learn how to be good partners, how to compromise and validate opinions of others. This leads to the stronger sense of community and improves the quality of both their professional and personal life. It can also encourage innovation and boost creativity, and consequently improve problem solving skills.
Creativity ?
To be creative does not necessarily mean being artistic. Rather than than, it means finding original and innovative solutions to problems. To foster creativity in your classroom, it’s important to stimulate curiosity, open mindedness and acceptance. Teachers need to encourage students to try new things and think outside of the box, since creativity is one of the most desirable skills in many professions.
Critical thinking ?
Critical thinking is the ability to analyze problems rationally and logically. It refers to a form of learning that goes beyond the memorization and recall of information, and a way of teaching students how to think, rather than what to think. This way, students learn how to approach situations in classroom and in real life more cautiously, analytically and assertively in order to make an informed decision and promptly take action.
