COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn Outdoors to Enhance Learning and Social Growth

The positive effects of Outdoor Learning are significant and far-reaching. Research shows that outdoor activities can boost academic performance, support personal and social growth, improve mental health and overall well-being, and strengthen environmental awareness.
Outdoor Learning is an intentional, structured approach guided by a teacher, coach, instructor, or facilitator. A crucial component of the process is understanding the natural or urban environment where the learning experience occurs.

For this reason, our Erasmus+ teacher training course emphasizes practical knowledge, environmental awareness, and the development of attitudes that encourage responsible behavior toward nature. These elements contribute to healthier lifestyles, stronger well-being, and a deeper appreciation of the environment.

Teach in Diverse Outdoor Environments

Through hands-on workshops and collaborative group tasks, participants in this Erasmus+ KA1 course will explore the range and flexibility of outdoor education. Teachers will gain practical insight into how formal learning can be adapted to various outdoor locations, including:

• Natural areas: forests, beaches, and similar outdoor landscapes 
• Urban environments: parks, public squares, and city streets 

Educators will develop strategies for teaching students how to act responsibly in outdoor spaces, how to protect natural resources, and how to build a meaningful connection with their surroundings.

Apply Games and Project-Based Learning Outdoors

Teachers and adult educators will discover new methods for teaching a wide range of skills—such as intercultural communication, collaboration, and social development—through games, drama, and interactive techniques used outside the classroom.
Participants will also engage in project-based learning by creating an educational video outdoors, giving each educator the chance to consider how these approaches can be transferred to their own professional context.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, participants will:

• Gain foundational understanding of outdoor education theory, methodology, and experiential learning principles
• Develop skills to incorporate more experiential activities to enrich lessons and boost student motivation
• Learn to design and implement active, experience-based learning tasks in outdoor spaces
• Explore creative ways to use games, drama, and improvisation to support “learning by doing”
• Expand their knowledge of how outdoor learning enhances personal growth and social skills
• Recognize how outdoor activities can be used to teach environmental topics
• Strengthen their ability to conduct risk assessments and ensure safety during outdoor lessons
