Course Description
Understanding Emotions: Definitions, Theories, and Key Perspectives
This course begins by exploring what emotions truly are. Participants will examine major definitions, theories, and psychological approaches that explain how emotions shape human behavior and learning. This foundation helps educators better understand the emotional experiences of both students and teachers.
Educators will be guided through the different levels of emotional awareness, gaining insight into how emotions develop and how they can be recognized more clearly in oneself and others. This section highlights why awareness is the first step toward emotional balance and effective teaching.
Teachers often face situations that trigger strong emotions. This module provides practical strategies for dealing with difficult emotional responses, enabling participants to maintain composure, reduce stress, and model emotional regulation for students.
Participants will explore the roots of emotional intelligence (EI), tracing its development and its increasing relevance in educational settings. The scientific foundations of socio-emotional intelligence will be presented, offering a deeper understanding of how EI supports learning, communication, and classroom relationships.

SEL as a Core Component of Education
Socio-emotional learning (SEL) is an essential part of human development and modern education. Participants will learn about the five key SEL competency areas and explore how SEL contributes to healthier identities, stronger relationships, and more supportive classroom communities.

Integrating SEL into School Prevention Programs
Through examples and practical guidance, educators will discover how SEL principles can be embedded into prevention initiatives within their schools. Attention will be given to designing activities that promote emotional growth while reducing behavioral challenges.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Erasmus+ teacher training course, participants will:
