COURSE DESCRIPTION

Understanding Special Needs in Education

Creating an environment that truly supports learners with special educational needs (SEN) is one of the most meaningful—and challenging—parts of teaching. It requires a deep understanding of student profiles, recognition of their strengths and barriers, and the ability to adapt instruction accordingly.

During this Erasmus training, participants learn to identify the characteristics of students with SEN, gifted learners, and students with different forms of disability. Teachers explore how to design learning strategies that align with each learner’s specific needs.

The course places particular emphasis on conditions such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, auditory processing difficulties, and visual–motor challenges. Participants examine the reasons behind students’ struggles with school content and learn what modifications and supports can make learning accessible.

Integrating Digital Tools Into SEN Education

With technology evolving rapidly, teachers now have access to numerous digital solutions designed to assist students with special needs.

Participants learn how to:

• Identify potential obstacles when using ICT with SEN learners
• Select appropriate tools and technologies tailored to individual needs
• Apply digital resources to enhance accessibility and student participation
• Sharing Experiences and Good Practices Across Europe
• A key objective of Erasmus+ is cross-cultural professional exchange.

Throughout the course, participants compare approaches to inclusion from various European education systems. They discuss case studies, share classroom experiences, and reflect on successful practices used in their own schools.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand a range of disabilities and learning differences
• Identify the needs of students with SEN, gifted learners, and students with disabilities
• Become familiar with tools that help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
• Develop personalised learning strategies and instructional plans
• Visit Croatian institutions that work with children with special needs
• Exchange expertise and teaching experiences with colleagues from across the EU
