COURSE DESCRIPTION

Understanding Emotions: Concepts, Theories, and Educational Perspectives

This course begins with a deep dive into the nature of emotions. Participants will explore key definitions, major psychological theories, and approaches that illuminate how emotions influence behavior, learning, and social interactions. This foundation equips educators to better understand the emotional experiences of both students and themselves.

Teachers will examine different levels of emotional awareness, gaining practical insight into how emotions emerge, evolve, and can be recognized in oneself and others. This knowledge underscores why emotional awareness is a critical first step toward achieving balance and fostering effective teaching.

Educators frequently encounter situations that evoke strong emotional responses. This module offers strategies to navigate challenging emotions, manage stress, and model emotional regulation for students in authentic classroom settings.

Participants will also investigate the origins and development of emotional intelligence (EI) and its growing significance in educational contexts. The course presents the scientific underpinnings of socio-emotional intelligence, helping educators understand how EI enhances learning, communication, and positive classroom relationships.

Socio-Emotional Learning as a Cornerstone of Education

Socio-emotional learning (SEL) is central to modern educational practice and personal development. Participants will learn about the five core SEL competencies and explore how integrating SEL can foster stronger relationships, healthier student identities, and a more supportive classroom culture.

Incorporating SEL into School-Wide Prevention Initiatives

Through practical examples and actionable guidance, educators will discover ways to embed SEL principles into school programs and prevention initiatives. Emphasis will be placed on designing activities that encourage emotional growth, social awareness, and reduced behavioral challenges.

By the conclusion of this Erasmus+ teacher training course, participants will be able to:
