Split – Experiential Education: Museums of Split, Croatia

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Elevate your teaching to new heights with museum-based learning.
This unique Erasmus+ course helps educators design dynamic, experiential, and project-based lessons that truly engage students and strengthen learning outcomes.

Museums as hubs for digitalisation, innovation, and interaction

Today’s museums and galleries are no longer static spaces; they are vibrant centres of education, creativity, and interdisciplinary exploration. Modern museums integrate art, science, history, culture, and technology—making them ideal environments for innovative teaching.

Museums spark curiosity and a sense of wonder. They encourage reflection, inspire new ideas, and support both professional and personal growth. This course allows teachers to immerse themselves in these inspiring environments and learn how to transfer museum-based methods into their own classrooms.

Explore Split’s most important museums and cultural sites

This course is designed to help teachers experience alternative learning environments that foster:

• creativity 
• critical thinking 
• analytical and observational skills 
• problem-solving 
• cross-curricular connections 

Together with our expert trainers, participants will visit exhibitions and take part in workshops connected to social sciences, natural sciences, arts, and new technologies.

Participants will explore:

• the living museum of Diocletian’s Palace 
• the Ivan Meštrović Gallery 
• the Maritime Museum 
• the Jadro excursion site and interpretation centre 
• various open-air galleries and cultural sites throughout the Split region 

You will also learn how museums collaborate with local schools, develop joint educational projects, and support curricular and extracurricular learning.

In addition, participants will connect with colleagues from across Europe, exchange ideas, and discover Croatia’s rich traditions, cultural heritage, and beautiful Mediterranean landscapes.

By the end of the course, participants will gain a comprehensive and innovative toolkit to enrich their teaching practices and help students learn more deeply and think more broadly.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will:

• develop critical thinking by analysing information and making interdisciplinary connections 
• engage in multisensory learning through visual, tactile, and auditory experiences 
• foster cultural literacy by exploring diverse perspectives and narratives 
• understand how different disciplines interact and complement one another 
• acquire experiential knowledge through hands-on activities and interactive displays

• enhance communication skills through discussions, reflections, and presentations 
• foster civic awareness by exploring societal issues within museum contexts
