Erasmus+ Proposal 2028–2034: New Priorities and Goals

We have some exciting news from Brussels! The European Commission has just published its proposal for the next Erasmus+ programme, running from 2028 to 2034, and it’s set to be bigger, bolder, and easier to join than ever before. With a record budget of €40.8 billion, the new Erasmus+ aims to open even more doors for learners, teachers, and organisations. This proposal is putting a strong spotlight on green and digital skills, inclusion, and lifelong learning. Whether you’re writing your next KA1 project or planning to take part in mobility yourself, this proposal gives us a clear picture of what Erasmus+ will be all about in the future. This blog will show you how to prepare and make the most of it.

The programme will run on two main pillarsFirst pillar is Learning Mobility for All, offering opportunities for everyone from school pupils and adult learners to teachers, athletes, and volunteers (yes, DiscoverEU train adventures are here to stay!). Second is Capacity Building, supporting schools, universities, and organisations to innovate, cooperate, and shape policy. Volunteering will become an even bigger part of Erasmus+ as the European Solidarity Corps is fully integrated, along with a brand-new European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps for young people ready to help in crises. Strategic scholarships will be available in high-demand areas like AI, green technologies, cybersecurity, healthcare, and digital innovation. There will also be more support for joint degrees and European University Alliances. Inclusion will remain at the heart of the programme, with simpler application processes and flat-rate grants. There will also be targeted support for rural areas, smaller organisations, and first-time applicants.

If You’re Planning a Project under Erasmus+ Proposal 2028–2034 (KA1, KA2, or Capacity Building)

  • Align with EU priorities: sustainability, green transition, digital transformation, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
  • Think beyond the classroom: include elements like adult education, volunteering opportunities, or joint degree pathways.
  • Reach the underrepresented: design activities for rural schools, small organisations, or groups with fewer opportunities.
  • Use the new funding model: take advantage of flat-rate and lump-sum grants for simpler budgeting and reporting.

If You’re Planning a Mobility Experience within Erasmus+ Proposal 2028–2034

  • Explore new fields: look out for strategic scholarships in AI, green tech, cybersecurity, healthcare, and other high-demand sectors.
  • Make it multidimensional: combine study or training with volunteering or cultural exchange for a richer experience.
  • Take advantage of DiscoverEU: if you’re 18, apply for the travel pass to explore Europe by train.
  • For adult learners: For adult learners, Erasmus+ after 2028 will put a stronger focus on lifelong learning. This means you can upskill, reskill, or specialise in areas that match future job market needs – from digital skills to sustainability practices.
  • Enjoy a smoother process: Benefit from simplified applications, quicker grant approvals, and more accessible opportunities. Whether you’re writing your next KA1 project or planning to take part in mobility yourself, this proposal gives us a clear picture of what Erasmus+ will be all about in the future

As we look ahead to the future of Erasmus+, one thing is clear: education is not only about knowledge and skills. It is also about shaping responsible, engaged citizens.
