REUNION ISLAND – A LITTLE ISLAND OF OUR HEARTS
Thanks to the opportunities offered by Erasmus+, we met wonderful people from a small French island in Africa – Reunion Island.
Amelie, Miguel, Stephane, Cecile, Valerie & Marie participated in our professional development courses and the experience we shared with them is invaluable to us. During discussions and workshops, we talked about burning topics in education. We heard about solutions to some of the problems we encountered in working with children and young people, for the first time from our dear friends. Their perception of teaching and educating and their experience have greatly contributed to our further professional work. Of course, this whole experience was enhanced with their warmness, kindness and friendliness. These people have really left a mark as part of our work within teacher training center.
As we met them at our first Welcome event, we introduced them to our traditional food and drink and some interesting facts about our country. Also, some of them brought their traditional products (such as champagne) which delighted us. We are overjoyed to have learned about this beautiful island we didn’t know about until we met them.
Reunion is a volcanic island full of true natural beauties. Having heard about it, we immediately found a connection with them, considering that Croatia is also known as a country of natural beauties.
In case you didn’t know, four different cultures merge on this island. This means that walking down the street, at the same time you can hear the sounds of French, African, Indian and Chinese folk music. Folk music is lively and diverse, often heard during street fairs or performed in cafes or bistros. The fun is doubled by the island’s friendly residents, representing a variety of cultures yet all living together in true island harmony.
This is one of the most interesting facts for us because we are a nation that loves and appreciates music, art and connection with friends and family.
We can’t wait to get a chance to work with these wonderful friends again and also meet new colleagues that we are sure will enrich our lives as well.
